The Charlestown Preservation Society is delighted to welcome two new board members who bring fresh perspectives, deep expertise, and a shared passion for protecting the historic character of our community.
Meet Ashley Nyland
Ashley Nyland moved to Charlestown last summer and quickly fell in love with the neighborhood’s architecture, sense of community, and layers of history. After volunteering with CPS during the Bunker Hill 250 celebrations, she was inspired to take on a more active role in preserving what makes Charlestown unique.
With a background in corporate events and a lifelong passion for history—sparked by her grandmother’s involvement in a local historical society—Ashley brings strong skills in storytelling, community-building, and partnership development. She’s especially drawn to Charlestown’s architectural diversity, which she sees as a “living timeline” of how the neighborhood has evolved.
On the board, Ashley looks forward to expanding CPS’s events and workshops, strengthening community partnerships, and helping to carry forward traditions like the bi-annual House Tour. Most of all, she’s eager to meet more neighbors and celebrate the place we all call home.
Meet Sarah Fillmann
The Charlestown Preservation Society is also excited to welcome Sarah Fillmann to the board! A longtime real estate professional with a focus on Charlestown, Sarah brings valuable expertise in balancing development with preservation. Working closely with local homeowners and developers, Sarah has seen firsthand how important it is to protect the neighborhood’s historic character while supporting thoughtful growth.
After attending a few CPS events, Sarah was inspired to get more involved and quickly realized how much Charlestown has to offer. Joining the board felt like the natural next step to deepen that connection and give back to the community.
Passionate about engaging neighbors, Sarah hopes to help amplify CPS’s voice, expand outreach, and encourage more resident participation in preservation efforts. Looking ahead, Sarah is eager to support events, strengthen community ties, and ensure that Charlestown’s history and charm continue to thrive for generations to come.
Together, Ashley and Sarah will play an important role in advancing CPS’s mission of safeguarding Charlestown’s history for generations to come. Please join us in welcoming them!
